Meet Our Speakers:

Chana Haouzi, AIA

Chana Haouzi is the founder of Architecture for Public Benefit, a mission-driven practice serving nonprofits and community organizations. Architecture for Public Benefit’s work has been recognized by the AIA Chicago Foundation’s Roberta Feldman Architecture for Social Justice Award and AIA Chicago’s 2023 and 2024 Design Excellence Awards. Chana was a Rose Fellow at the City of Boston’s Department of Neighborhood Development and developed innovative design initiatives to increase housing affordability and access. Chana teaches at the University of Chicago with a focus on promoting socially engaged and inclusive design rooted in community and context. Chana holds a Master of Architecture II from Harvard University, a Master of Architecture, and a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from McGill University. She serves as a board member of the Association for Community Design and is the recipient of the 2022 AIA Young Architects Award.

Janeallison Ortega, Associate, NCIDQ

Janeallison Ortega is a Chicago-based interior designer, artist, and humanitarian with a passion for creating spaces that support student success and wellness. Since joining SCB in 2016, she has played a key role in advancing the firm’s culture and innovation, serving on its inaugural Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Opportunity committee, its first Data Analytics group, and previously co-chaired the Campus Environments Research and Development group. Her portfolio spans programming and design of interiors for academic buildings, residence halls, dining facilities, and office spaces on campuses nationwide.

Jane is an active presence in the architecture and design industry, engaging as a ASID Ones to Watch Scholar, ASID mentor panelist, ASID student portfolio reviewer, NeoCon Judge, CAC Newhouse Architecture + Design Competition Judge, and participant in various industry events. Beyond her professional work, Jane’s humanitarian spirit shines through her volunteerism with organizations like Designs for Dignity, The Humanity Share, and Habitat for Humanity, continuing a legacy of service inspired by her Peace Corps experience.
